New news - especially for YOU, Portlanders! And, Show Tonite!

Hi pen pals of all stripes,

Well, the new EP "Trite You Are" has been out for about two weeks now, and I'm already super pleased with the appreciation and pure doses of neurotransmitted brain candy that y'all are sustaining me with. Thank you.

[If you want to support Rat Paws enterprises *materially* so we can get to the next STAGE aka EP number two, please consider parting with what cash you can for a digital or physical copy of the EP. Blank tapes, printing, mastering, taking a day off to work on recording since I have no paid sick days at my job --- these all cost money... and yeah [looks out window] no money tree in the backyard (cue scene from An Education where Alfred Molina screams at Carey Mulligan about lack of said money tree).]

TONIGHT Rat Paws is playing at the Tractor Tavern with the proto-gothic country-tinged rockers Dining Dead (RIYL Mazzy Star, Cowboy Junkies), with whom RP has shared the stage before, and AP Macroeconomics (writerly noise-flecked neo-bedroom-pop) in Ballard, Seattle, Washington on Ballard Ave, no less. The only other time I've ever set foot in the Tractor is when Mira and I saw Juliana Hatfield there in early 2020. So I'm expecting the same GROUND SWELL of well-heeled gen X-ers in attendance MMKAY???? We are playing first at 8pm and by we I mean Mira, myself and Danica, who is here visiting from Wisconsin (she played bass on the recording of "Shelf" on the EP). Also, this is really somethin', we're gonna have Henry (who you've seen/heard play bass with us lots since last fall) on TENOR SAXOPHONE for one song. Who knew that tenor sax is the perfect pendant to my kind of low nasal droney singing voice?! Hot dang. We did "STHU" as a four-piece* at Darrell's open mic last night and when the sax came in I felt the muscles in my face involuntarily decompress. Music is a natural yoga.

* actually five-piece bc Jesus is Weed AKA David was moved to join in on tambourine.

Next item: Rat Paws - the song "Shelf" specifically - was played at the top of the king's caviar of punk-orbiting "sub-underground" internet-based DJ shows / podcasts. Dynamite Hemorrhage Radio # 202, to be exact. It's a great program (mix of relics both holy and unholy and contemporary noise-making) and as a regular listener of the show, I'm BEYOND CHUFFED.

Next and last item: WE HAVE ADDED SOME SHOWS! Yesterday it was announced that we're playing at Chop Suey on May 27th with clever indie-pop/college rockers Ladybug and DESTROYME! (advance tix) And it was confirmed recently that RP is coming down to Portland for a backyard house show at the Sarah Douglas Home for Wayward Squirrels and Bugs on July 29th!

Full list of upcoming shows:

tonight, obvi at Tractor

4/13 at Central Saloon with Wall Drugs and Diig

5/19 at Blue Moon Tavern with Jesus is Weed

5/27 at Chop Suey with Ladybug and DESTROYME!

6/20 at the Sunset Tavern with Dog Dog and Spirit Wives

Eleanor
